It may be hard to believe for some of you….I belong to a generation that grew up in a very different world.
As we were growing up, there were no PCs, no MMO games, no Internet. There were no cellphones, no instant messengers and no GPS devices! When we wanted talk, we would go outside and find a friend, and there was always someone around.
There was no PS or Xbox! There was no Gran Truismo! We would build small karts made of whatever we could find in the street. They had sharp edges and rusty nails! We would climb inside and roll down the highest hill we could find! Only after would we realize there were no brakes. To stop we would crash into a wall!! It hurt! For real! Then, if the kart survived, we would climb up the hill and do it again!!
There was no Quake, “Medal of Battlefields”, "Battlefields of Honor" or whatever! We would play wars by throwing rocks at each other. That’s real rocks! And it really hurt!!! We would climb a wall or a tree, to avoid the majority of the rocks, and often fall down!!At the end of the day, in our hands and knees, there were bruises and often blood. It was OK!!
We had no avatars!! We had friends! Real ones! And the only way to find them was to run outside or go to school!! Sometimes, we would get upset and fight. For real! Many times it really hurt!
At night, our Moms would not tell us to turn off the computer; they would tell us to go home, not on the cellphone, because there was no such thing, but by going outside and finding us.
We would go to bed exhausted, after running around for hours.
In the next day we would do it all over again!
